Meet Rick Knowles
As an executive with 37+ years of professional experience across several industries, my experience spans everything from working at our family's small barbershop to serving in the U.S. Army to holding progressive leadership positions across multiple corporations including McDonalds, Xerox, Southern Company, SAIC, and SAP.
While growing up, I always had a knack and interest in business and personal finance which was likely driven by the desire to change my family's meager means. Yes, I know what it's like not to have enough food to eat, to have your electricity and gas cut off, and needing to rely on the generosity of others for food and clothing. I am a first-generation high school graduate who struggled to figure out how to go to college. After much persistence, I also became a first-generation college graduate for both an undergraduate and masters degree.
After serving for 20 years at SAP, I retired at 52 years old. I became financially independent by my early 40s due to practicing solid financial principles all my life: always living within or below my means, managing debt carefully, and saving to invest. This isn't to say I have not made my fair share of mistakes, but I have definitely learned from them, and they continue to inform my journey in helping others. As a lifelong learner, I devoured books and constantly applied financial principles to my own circumstances. I learned early on that personal habits and consistency lead to small wins which over time helps to achieve success. I have lived this journey and personally know the sacrifices it takes to transform one's financial habits. I believe anyone with the right determination, discipline, and solid money habits can change their financial future for themselves and their family.
I have been mentoring others for several years and have enjoyed helping people drive personal change. Therefore, I decided to be even more intentional about my desire to help others by starting my own financial coaching practice.
Besides my life's experiences, my formal education includes a M.B.A. in Management from and a B.S. in Business Administration. I have completed a Global Leadership Development Program with INSEAD Business School (in Fontainebleau, France) and several Executive Education courses from the Stanford Business School. I am a certified Master Financial Coach (MFC) which I completed with Ramsey Solutions. In addition, I am a SCORE Certified Mentor where I coach entrepreneurs and small business owners regarding their operations, growth, sales, profitability, and marketing. SCORE operates as a non-profit resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Currently, I live in the North Atlanta, GA metro area.
